Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship

 

The Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Research Foundation orthopaedic-sports medicine fellowship provides a well-rounded approach to post-residency training.  Fellows will gain experience through one-on-one operative training along side fellowship trained sports surgeons.  The operative experience is balanced with comparable numbers of knees and shoulders and also includes hip, ankle, elbow and wrist arthroscopy.  The faculty includes 3 fellowship trained orthopaedic sports medicine and 1 fellowship trained upper extremity surgeons.  The fellows will also benefit from exposure to outpatient arthroscopy, laboratory based operative training, clinical research, perspectives on injury prevention, and team physician experience at various levels (Los Angeles Galaxy [MLS], Chivas USA [MLS], US Soccer Men’s  National Team, Pepperdine University, Amgen Tour of California [professional staged cycling]).

Fellowship Directors:    Bert R. Mandelbaum, M.D., Thomas P. Knapp, M.D.

Number of fellows:  3

Stipend:  $55,000 per year

Length of Program:  August 1, 2013 – July 31, 2014 (52 weeks) plus 4-days of training prior to the start of the fellowship.

Malpractice Insurance:  Provided

Health Benefits:  Provided for fellow and family

Vacation:  Two weeks

Supported Educational Meetings:  Two meetings.  American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Annual Meeting and one other sports medicine meeting with approval from the Fellowship Director.
 
On-call:  1-2 weekends per month of general orthopaedic call

Requirements:
1)     Successful completion of an ACGME approved orthopaedic residency program

4)     Santa Monica Orthopaedic will participate in the 2012 ortho-sports medicine match.  Through the match website, please submit an application, CV, 4 letters of reference, photocopy of medical school transcript and boards score report(s).
